Pregnancy + Breathwork .. Is it safe?
“What an experience! I connected with my unborn baby in such a magical way.”
Breathing is a natural, life-sustaining process. When it comes to Breathwork, particularly during pregnancy, it's not the breathing itself that's risky but often the thoughts and emotions we carry with us. A mindful Breathwork practice can offer an incredible opportunity to build a deeper bond with the angel growing inside.
However, as every pregnancy is unique, safety must come first. It's essential to consult with your healthcare provider before engaging in any Breathwork practices and to sign a detailed waiver to ensure informed participation.
Shamanic Breathwork, while powerful, can be intense and physically demanding. That’s why we recommend pregnant women approach it gently, avoiding any forceful breathing. Slower, more intentional breathing is key during this sacred time.
Key Considerations:
Health Status: Do you have any medical conditions, pregnancy-related health issues, or pre-existing conditions?
Experience: Have you practiced Breathwork or deep breathing techniques before?
Pregnancy Stage: How far along are you in your pregnancy?
Several women have joined our sessions at different stages of pregnancy—some at 3 months, others as late as 7 months. Some were experienced with Breathwork and yoga, while others were newcomers. Across the board, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many describing the experience as "transformative" and "calming."
However, we advise against participating during the first trimester due to higher risks during this period.
Statistics and Safety:
According to a 2020 study on prenatal wellness, around 60% of pregnant women report feeling anxious at some point during their pregnancy. Deep, mindful breathing has been shown to reduce stress and anxiety by up to 30% in some cases. This makes Breathwork not only a spiritual tool but a scientifically backed way to relax both body and mind during pregnancy.
Although we do everything possible to create a safe, supportive environment for pregnant participants, we cannot guarantee complete safety for the mother or child. This is why we don't recommend participating in online Breathwork sessions during pregnancy, as in-person guidance is critical for a safe experience.
Preparing for a Session:
If, after consulting with your doctor, you feel ready to join a Breathwork session, you'll need to create a comfortable space. Gather pillows, bolsters, and blankets to support your body and set an intention for the session. Whether it’s to connect with your baby, find inner peace, or simply breathe more deeply, let the session be an opportunity to bond with your child in a truly magical way.
Breathe slowly, keeping each NAFAS (Arabic for breath) deep but gentle. Let the rhythm of your breath carry you and your baby into a state of connection and calm.
"Birth is not about making babies. Birth is about making mothers - strong, competent, capable mothers who trust themselves and know their inner strength.”
